The game

Yours to command

Blood & Heresy: First Fall is a third-person co-op tactical game set in a dark fantasy world. You lead a small band of heroes: give them orders, take direct control of any one of them whenever you like, and decide how the job gets done. Play solo or with up to five friends. Any empty place goes to an AI companion who follows your orders.

Every mission can be played quietly, by plan, or head-on. Darkness, light and noise decide who spots whom first. Some missions need you unseen, some need a position held, and some only ask that you get out alive.

Built by a solo developer with the help of AI tools, in Godot, with his own servers and launcher. A small group of invited players is testing it right now.

  • Command

Give orders to the whole band, or take over any one of them and fight it out yourself. You can switch at any moment.

  • Silence or steel

Slip through in the dark, set an ambush, or walk in through the front gate. Every torch you pass and every sound you make can give you away.

  • No markers

No arrows, no glowing trails. Some tasks stay hidden until you stumble on them. You find out what to do from people and by scouting the ground.

  • More than hordes

One mission is a quiet infiltration, the next a desperate defence or a run for your life. Hordes are one of the threats, not the whole game.

The world

At dawn, the rifts opened

Our world is only one of many. Yet it stands among the greatest. Among the most powerful.

Not long ago, the one who ruled above all rulers met his end. A death once thought impossible.

Across countless worlds, the mourning continues. Our own world is no exception.

And now… another tragedy has struck.

At dawn, rifts began to tear open across our world. Rifts that lead into the depths of hell itself. From them came the servants of darkness. They swept across our lands, leaving blood and ruin in their wake.

Our villages burned. Our cities fell into chaos. And the slaughter has only begun.

Yet on this very day… In this very place…

An unseen force has brought together a handful of unlikely heroes.

None of them know what awaits. None of them understand the part they are about to play.

For the fate of our world… The fate of us all… Now rests in their hands.

From the developer

The game I wanted to play

For a long time I wanted a game where I lead a whole band of characters, can play alone or with friends, and get back what I love about older fantasy games. So I decided to make it.

Jan Štrobl, author of the game

Why this game

I love fantasy, and I love games where you lead a party rather than a single hero, like Dragon Age: Origins. I took inspiration from several games and wanted to bring together what I value in them, mostly in the older ones: preparing before a mission, a camp where the band gathers, and the feeling that every character matters.

Every hero counts

When a hero falls, the game does not end. But their story may close with them, some items may stay out of reach, and a mission tied to that character may never open. So it pays to keep your people alive and to talk to them. And if you lose someone? That is fine. Start the campaign again and play it differently.

Never the same twice

The game is made to be played again. There are several endings and more than one way to deal with some situations. I will not spoil more, but I do not want it to be predictable.

Play it your way

Some missions are built for stealth. If sneaking bores you, charge in. A frontal assault will have a harder time there, but if you think it through and have a plan, it can work. You take a big risk, and it can still pay off.

It works the other way too. You can fight a battle carefully and tactically, just remember it is still a battle: while you creep around, someone will jump out at you. I want missions that shift, not one rigid script.

Solo or with friends

You can play a whole campaign alone, with AI companions only. The next one with one group of friends, a third with a completely different group. Every time it turns out differently, and that is what I enjoy most.

Friends also help your campaign along. Heroes do not level up in the classic RPG way, they have their own kind of progress. When a friend plays one of them, they help that hero improve in your campaign. That progress does not carry over to their own campaign, and I have no plans for that for now.

A Friend Pass is planned. It will let friends join your campaign and help with missions. They will not have a campaign of their own, but for anyone who only wants co-op and says “I’ll come and help you with this mission”, that is enough.

About AI

I use AI tools and I am not ashamed of it. I mainly build web applications, and I am not a big fan of vibe coding. But when something is meant to bring joy to me and to other people, why not? This is not a game where I say “make me a game like this” and stop caring.

I have had this world in my head for a long time. Now I have had to build it out properly, and I have clear limits on what belongs in it and what does not. I am not trying to bend it so that everyone likes it.

I am not an artist and I cannot draw. I value that kind of work and like to pay for it properly, I just do not have the budget for an artist. So I see no reason not to use AI for the art, as long as it looks right and makes sense.

What comes next

I think games like this are wanted. I am glad for any feedback, good or bad. If the game does well, I would love to keep building it. Most of all I want people who love this genre to be able to play it with their friends.
